Great points!

In many cases the fault is the owners for not properly socializing or training their dog.

Dogs are not born aggressive or "bad." Thanks goes to humans especially to the dog trainer for making them that way.

It's interesting to note that we are almost completely oblivious to how we treat our animals while fully expecting them to comply and like it. Yelling at a dog or striking it for peeing in the house will only make it hide and go elsewhere. We need to be more aware of what signals our actions/words send to our beloved 4 legged buddies.

Hi Beth,

Thanks for commenting! I've just started reading "Animals Make Us Human," and am enjoying it so far. I've read several other of Temple Grandin's books, and really enjoy her perspective.

Temple Grandin's new book, 'Animals Make Us Human' further debunks the Alpha 'myth' by exposing the fact that wolves (whose behavior is often taken into account when approaching dog behavior) do not actually live in packs, but families. Yes, dogs need leaders, but by adopting a slightly more anthropomorphic (and yes, humane) approach, acting as 'parent' rather than 'alpha' can go a long way in achieving results with our dogs.

Pleased to meet you at the carnival!!
