Beau Meets Hailey

This is a GREAT picture that one of my friends took about a week ago. Hailey, who came to visit the rescue, was smitten with Beau and he was totally fascinated with her!

I’ve written previously about Beau, our big black and white gelding, such as in this recent post. He was badly abused and was untouchable and VERY skeptical of people for a long time.

We worked with him a lot this spring using CAT (constructional aggression treatment), which a procedure that works well with both aggressive dogs and fearful horses.

Now, we are so proud of Beau because he seeks out attention, even from strangers. He is pretty curious and interested in meeting new people. You can see he’s pretty calm about the whole affair, his head is low, his eyes and nostrils are relaxed and his ears are more floppy than tense. He was more than happy to let Hailey scratch him a bit on his neck.

This is wonderful to see! I was also very touched by the blog post you wrote a couple of weeks ago, about the mare who was starved and now looked so well and happy. All you guys at the rescue are doing a fantastic job, helping so many horses to get a second chance in life.

Thanks for the comment and the kind words, Lottie. We have been having an

absolutely great summer at the rescue. All of the horses are doing

excellently and we also, just of last week, now have a handful of adoptions

in the works. This is one of the best part about rescue—seeing the horses

      go to happy new homes.

I'm glad you liked the recent post about Gingersnap (the mare who was

starved). Over the weekend, one of our previous adopters (who really loves

      Gingersnap) decided to adopt her!

We also found a perfect home this weekend for Chardonnay, a 13 year old

ex-brood mare who is rideable, but has been hard to place because she is not

completely sound. The woman wanted a horse as a companion for her other

horse, a horse she could love on, and one that would be safe for occasional

rides for the grand kids. So, we are really happy about finding a good home

for her. Chardonnay's the one I wrote about last week with the pool noodles,

she's a sweetheart and all our volunteers love her. (
