Chewie’s Diary Week 34: Moving day

Chewie has had an exciting week. This past weekend, we moved to a new barn!

There were many things that I liked about our old boarding barn. However, there were a handful of things that meant it wasn’t the best fit for Chewie and me.

First day at the new barn

The new “barn” isn’t a typical boarding barn or stable.

It’s a small private barn behind a residential house. The owner rents out the barn and pastures, typically to one or two boarders.

The horse part of the property is approximately 2.5 acres and is divided into several pastures. Chewie will share the space with a very cute brown donkey named Liberty. Liberty belongs to another boarder and has been living on the property for some time.

Chewie and Liberty the donkey have been getting to know each other through the fence. I’ll keep them in separate pastures for the next week or two and slowly introduce them to each other.

Meeting Liberty the donkey

I’m excited about this move, as it is going to give me more control over many aspects of Chewie’s life, including what type of hay she gets, when and how she gets fed her hay and grain, enrichment activities, and more.

I think I can design an environment for her (and her donkey buddy!) that will be healthier and more enriching than most typical boarding environments.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Chewie and I both learn at this new barn.
