Sometimes, I wish I could ask Chewie, “What types of treats and foods do you like best? Do you have a favorite flavor of food?”
When we are training, we often use hay pellets, alfalfa pellets, or a low-starch feed called Stabul 1.
However, recently, I’ve been experimenting with several new types of hay pellets and low-calorie horse feeds that I have not used in the past.
I was curious to know which of these feeds Chewie likes the best.

For the past several days, after Chewie eats her breakfast, I have been offering her five bowls of food.
Each bowl has half a cup of a different type of food.
Take a look at the picture below.
Can you guess which four foods Chewie likes and which one food she really doesn’t like?

The offending food is a Bermuda hay pellet. I won’t be buying that brand of horse feed again!
With regard to the other four foods, there’s one that Chewie clearly prefers. For the three others, I’m not sure about her preference. She sometimes eats them in different orders or alternates between them while eating.
I may switch to a different type of preference assessment to gain some more insight regarding whether she has a clear preference for her middle three choices.
