Chewie’s Diary Week 39: APDT 2025

I have been on the road this week!

I’m in Richmond, Virginia for the 2025 APDT annual convention. APDT is the Association for Professional Dog Training.

On Tuesday this week, Dr. Jesús Rosales-Ruiz and I gave a six-hour workshop about shaping.

We had a great time with the workshop attendees. The workshop was filled with PORTL shaping exercises, animal training video examples, and plenty of time for questions and discussion.

I also gave a lecture today as part of the conference. My presentation was all about reinforcement systems.

It’s been interesting to attend the other conference presentations, and I have also been enjoying catching up with friends.

Chewie and Liberty!

Chewie and Liberty are in good hands back in Texas with my wonderful pet sitter.

Everything has gone smoothly with the pet sitter, in part because of some routines that Chewie and Liberty and I had been practicing in the days leading up to my trip. I’ll write more about this topic in a future post!

As well, my pet sitter understands what MY reinforcers are and has been sending me plenty of cute horse and donkey photos from their visits. 🙂
