Fall is here! Our hot, hot summer and drought are finally over.
Chewie and I are both happy about the cooler temperatures and rain. Chewie, as well, is quite pleased about rolling around in the damp dirt.

This week, we’ve starting expanding Chewie’s stay behavior. Up to now, I have stood still while we have practiced stay.
Now, I am beginning to vary my location and position, as well as what I am doing. We started out with small variations. But, fairly quickly, we’ve been able to progress to more interesting variations.
We’ve been having a lot of fun so far with these sessions.
In the photo below, I’m in a new location, I’m facing away from Chewie, and I’m moving around on a red plastic block. Chewie watches me, but she stays on her platform. Good girl, Chewie!

As well, I’ve been thinking about fall training plans and goals.
Chewie and I spent a lot of time this summer working in the barn to escape the sun. We’ve made a lot of progress on Chewie’s stay and her chin rest. As well, we now have a really nice routine for putting on her fly mask.
Heading into the fall, I’d like to work on generalizing some of these behaviors to other locations around the property. I’m also excited for the cooler weather to work on some behaviors that involve more movement.
