Have you heard? Registration is now open for ORCA’s 5th annual Art and Science of Animal Training Conference. The conference will be held in February 2013 in Denton, Texas. This is one of my absolute favorite conferences every year (and that’s not just because I help with the planning!). This conference does a great job of bringing together animal trainers and behavior scientists to discuss animal training and animal behavior.

For an idea of what’s been covered at some of the past conferences, check out the conference and clinic notes section of my site. This page has my notes and thoughts from the 2009, 2010, and 2012 conferences.
The keynote speaker for the 2013 conference will be Dr. Susan Schneider. I’m really excited about this! Dr. Schneider will discuss the science of consequences and common behavioral principles that exist across species. Her talk will explore the full range of what we share with animals, as well as how this knowledge can benefit both trainers and scientists. Her new book, The Science of Consequences, will be published next month and looks very cool. (I’ve already pre-ordered a copy.)
The conference will also include talks by Bob Bailey, Alexandra Kurland, Kay Laurence, Phung Luu, Ken Ramirez, and Steve and Jen White. I’m sure that this is going to be another fascinating conference that will explore new concepts in both animal training and the analysis of animal behavior. If you’re interested in coming, I encourage you to register soon. (Last year’s conference was sold out.)
