Wordless Wednesday: Smart pups!

Last week’s wordless Wednesday photo featured some Canadian school children who were learning about clicker training at a young age. This week’s photo is another group of lucky youngsters who are getting an early start learning about positive training.

Veterinarian Tracy Johnson sent me this GREAT photo of a litter of pups who recently visited her clinic for vaccinations and an exam. They learned a bit about clicker training and had a great time during their visit. What an excellent way to help young dogs learn that the veterinary clinic is a fun place and not a scary place! Tracy said that at the following appointment, the pups still remembered exactly what they had learned during this visit.

Dr. Tracy Johnson works for Country Companions Veterinary Services in Bethany, CT. In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, she is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy and offers private and group clicker training classes. You are read more about her on the clinic’s website.

I really have no idea what this clicker training is and how is it done. Do you have any guides? I’m really interested in training my dogs this way.
