Chewie’s Diary Week 12: Galveston

I’m out of town this week! I’m in Galveston, Texas, for the ABMA annual conference.

ABMA stands for the Animal Behavior Management Alliance. The ABMA is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to enhancing animal care through training, enrichment, and other strategies that promote well-being.

ABMA members are mainly individuals who work with exotic animals is zoological facilities and aquariums. However, they also have members who work with domestic animals.

So far this week, I’ve heard presentations about coyotes, vultures, black bears, and more! I also gave a short presentation on Monday about the history of the shaping game.

Chewie is happily hanging out with her horse-y friends at the ranch.

One of my requirements for a boarding barn is that I want a facility where my horses get to live outside in a pasture environment with other horses.

This type of environment means that, even when I’m traveling, Chewie is still happy. She has a field to roam around, grass and hay to eat, and friends to play with.

I will be back next week with more training updates!
