It surprises me how many horse DVD rental services exist. I’ve written in the past about horseflix, but I know of at least several others. These services are like netflix, but with horse training videos. I recently switched from horseflix to giddyupflix.com. So far I’ve been much happier with giddyupflix. The wait times seem about the same. However, the selection is much better, there are no late fees, and I can keep more than just a handful of DVDs in my queue (currently over 20).
I watched a Jason Patrick DVD recently. Towards the end he said “”If you ever get a chance to ride with good horsemen, it doesn’t matter if you agree with everything they do or not, you’ll learn something.” The same applies for watching and listening to good horsemen.
I’ll try to post brief reviews from time to time of some of the DVDs I rent. I love watching a variety of trainers, even if I don’t completely agree with them. There’s always something to be learned from watching different training methods and seeing how the animal responds.
Anyone have suggestions for favorite trainers or interesting DVDs? I’d love to hear your recommendations, you can leave them in the comments section if you like. My biggest interest right now is different approaches to teaching colts and green horses. However, I also enjoy watching high level trainers work on refinement, everything from liberty work to dressage to reining.
I READ YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT JOINING GIDDYUPFLIX AND I WANT TO JOIN, HOWEVER, EVERYTIME I GO TO THEIR WEBSITE AND CLICK ON JOIN NOW, IT SAYS WEBPAGE NOT AVAILABLE.
DID THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS? CAN YOU HELP ME.
I AM DESPERATE. I WANT TO JOIN IN THE WORST WAY. HELP PLEASE.
Sandra,
I am not associated with giddyupflix, so I cannot help you directly.
If you are having trouble using their website, you might want to contact them using the form on their website:

Good luck, giddyupflix is a great service. Thanks for reading my blog!

To Sandra Potter:
The website works fine. I believe the link you were using didn’t work because of a mistyped address, there is comma after the www instead of a period.
Same thing happened to me I just changed the comma to a dot and worked. Maybe this will be corrected by the poster soon. Or use the link from comment above.
I would like to have you try the Lead Change DVD from the new series by Tim McQuay.
Thank you.
Thanks for commenting!
Sounds like an interesting DVD. None of our colts are nearly at the point of working on lead changes, so I probably won't rent that DVD, at least for awhile.
Giddyupflix is fairly inexpensive to join, you might want to consider a membership!

My name is Jan Mendoza. I'm a trainer and my DVD Trick and Fancy Riding is showing up for rent on Giddyupflix.com. This is being done without my permission and is illegal of copyright laws. I've contacted a few of the other trainers that I personally know whose DVDs are also showing up on that website. They did not receive permission either. This company has straight up stolen copyright materials and are making copies for redistribution. I'm having a hard time finding the legal owner of this business that is based out of port Orchard Washington. I'm about to subpoena the records of the domain name. If anyone has any information on this company, please contact me at abarjranch@yahoo.com or phone 916-505-2136. I have been selling my own DVDs for a few years with the exception of a few vendors who have purchased them from me wholesale for their retail stores. Thank you for your help and DON'T RENT FROM THIEVES!
So to follow up on my earlier post, I found out they are completely within their legal rights to rent DVDs and not pay royalties to the authors. There is a loophole in the US Code “First Sale Doctrine” that says if you purchase a DVD you can make copies and rent them out! (So what are al those FBI warnings about on DVDs) So a word to the wise, if you make an instructional video on your own dime, be prepared to share it with the world for free while you have boxes of DVDs sitting in your closet that you can't sell because people can legally rent them out for a fraction of the cost. Not happy about this, but you can't fight city hall!
